The journalism degree programme in changing times

Journalism Education

Changes in the journalism profession have made journalism degree programmes uncertain about the right course to set. Which skills and knowledge do journalists today need? HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht is conducting research on the above.

Objective

The objective of this research is to arrive at a ‘persona’, a description of characteristics and skills that journalism lecturers need in these changing times.

Results

This research is ongoing. Once completed, the research results will be summarised here.

Duration

01 January 2018 - 01 January 2020

Approach

This research analyses how lecturers in the Journalism programme handle changes in their profession. We do this using the stimulated recall method, in which we make video recordings of teaching situations, which are then analysed with the teachers in question afterwards. We use the above to develop a profile of the journalism lecturer.
