Diederik M. Yamamoto-Roijers

Dr Diederik M. Roijers is a member of the Smart Systems for Healthy Living research group. He focuses on the application of AI, and specifically automated decision making (incl. planning under uncertainty and reinforcement learning), using microsystems technology. He is especially interested in difficult decision problems in systems where multiple objectives need to be balanced and optimised for simultaneously.

Diederik obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2016. His dissertation was titled “Multi-objective decision-theoretic planning”. After this, he was a postdoctoral research assistant in social robotics at the University of Oxford, and subsequently a postdoctoral fellow on multi-objective reinforcement learning at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and assistant professor computational intelligence at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Together with his research activities for MST, he is a senior lecturer in Technical Computer Science at the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (HU).
