Erik Hekman was born in Nijmegen in 1982 and was conferred a bachelor’s degree in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) by HAN University of Applied Sciences. He subsequently obtained a master’s degree in Media Technology from Leiden University.
He is currently working within the Research group Human Experience & Media Design. His main fields of research are Social Media, Cross Media, Interactive High-Definition Television and Digital Cultural Heritage. At the moment, Hekman is working on his doctoral research into the value of social media and how this value could be translated into new revenue.
Besides working on this research, Hekman gives lectures to students in the Digital Communications degree programme, with specific emphasis on the subjects Web Design, Object-oriented Design, Computer Programming and Research. He is also involved on the Data-Driven Design master’s degree programme.
