Esther du Pon MSc (1985) conducts doctoral research at Radboud University Nijmegen, under the name "DESTINE - Diabetes Education and Self-management to INcrease Empowerment".
Esther’s research involves: the effect of a group education programme (PRISMA) for patients with type 2 diabetes on the use of an online care platform, participation during the consultation with the practice assistant, therapy compliance and the health status of the patient. To this end, 200 patients from general practitioner’s offices will be followed during the course of one year.
"The intent is to increase patient empowerment by getting them to be more involved in their own treatment"
Esther has been working as a researcher at the IZF research group since 2012. Her project DESTINE started in 2014. In 2011, Esther completed her master’s degree in Communication Studies at Utrecht University, after obtaining her bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Business Administration at the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht in 2009.
