Irene de Kleyn MSc studied French Language and Literature, with minors in Spanish and International Relations, at Utrecht University. She subsequently worked in documentation at Utrecht University, the Bibliografie Nederlandse Sociale Wetenschappen, and then in the world of business in the Netherlands and in Great Britain.
In 2008, Irene obtained a first-level teaching qualification in French and a second-level teaching qualification in Spanish, from the Post-Graduate Teacher Programme at Brighton University. As French/Spanish curriculum leader at The Eastbourne Academy - an iPad school with students from forty different nationalities - Irene has acquired expertise in the areas of educational development and innovation, differentiation, multilingualism and English as a second language.
Irene has been affiliated with the Archimedes Institute since 2014, as a lecturer of English, curriculum manager, and educational developer in the Didactics programme of Languages cluster. She also lectures in didactics at Utrecht University.
Irene's drive to make foreign language education more accessible in secondary education resulted in her accepting a position in 2016 at the Research Group Foreign Language Education.
