In 2001, after gaining insight and understanding through (years of) experience in social work, Joep Hanrath made the career switch to education. Since 2008, he has been combining education with research, including projects such as Trajectzorg: back into society from closed youth rehabilitation facilities, Employment Alliance within Youth Assistance, and the development of the competency set Forensic Social Professional. The past two years, Joep Hanrath has emphasised research within probation services and the prison system.
His ambition is to make scientific knowledge accessible to students for use during their practical assignments. Students can then be included in ongoing research projects, graduate on sub-topics within long-term lines of research, and participate in workshop conferences with professionals. In this way, research results are given a place in education, thereby serving as discussion material for students.
Joep Hanrath obtained his doctorate on 26 September 2013 at the University of Utrecht. Read the summary of his dissertation "Keeping the balance". Hanrath also delivered a lecture during a symposium at the HU, which was devoted to his doctoral research.
