Maria Puerta Melguizo

Mari Carmen Puerta Melguizo

Teacher Creative Business
Since I joined this programme, I have worn several hats: Lecturer, Graduation Assignment Coordinator, Manager of the Curriculum Redesign, Team Lead and, since recently, Programme Manager. Irrespective of the position, I keep enjoying putting all my energy into doing whatever I can to make CB an even funkier, innovative, and more successful programme.

Biography

Mari Carmen (aka Maria) holds a PhD in Cognitive Psychology (University of Granada, Spain). In 2000 she moved to The Netherlands with a Post-doc. Next to doing research, she taught several courses at the Vrije Universiteit and later at the University of Utrecht as assistant professor at the Department of Computer Sciences. She was fully responsible for teaching and developing courses (bachelor and Master) such as of Cognitive Ergonomics, Human Information Processing and Statistical Applied Methodology. In 2012 she started working as a lecturer at our programme then called International Communication and Media (ICM). She was fully involved in all the research related courses, she also helped developing and teaching in the Minor Media Psychology. Very soon she became the Graduation Assignment Coordinator and the Manager for the curriculum redesign that, with the collaboration of all our lecturers, radically transformed our programme into Creative Business (CB). All these changes had a huge impact in terms of the number and the diversity among our students, lecturers, and support staff and with this, her role evolved into Team Lead and recently Programme Manager. Very briefly, her current role is to help supporting CB as a programme that due to its inherent and innovative nature, is in perpetual flux in terms of content and population.
