Biography

Sabine Boesen - Mariani, PhD, is a senior lecturer at Creative Business. She received her PhD in Marketing, with distinction, from Université Pierre Mendes France in Grenoble, France. She was a visiting PhD candidate at Columbia University and at Erasmus University Rotterdam. At HU, she teaches Humanities, Marketing Principles, Influence your audience, and Research Methods and is also coaching students. Dr. Boesen Mariani's research on consumer behaviour has been published in several journals such as Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism, Integrative Psychological and Behavioral Science.

Her research interests include Social Marketing, Consumer psychology, behaviour change for good (i.e., healthy eating habits, sustainable behaviour). Sabine has 20 years’ experience in applied research both in Academia and corporate. Sabine has worked for 11 years at Danone Nutricia Research where first as a behaviour scientist her research focused on actions and mechanisms underlying behaviour modification related to healthy eating habits. Her responsibilities included leading consumer research programmes aiming to understand determinants of individual behaviour and develop behavioural interventions to positively and sustainably impact these behaviours. Lately, Sabine had the opportunities to work on new research methods applied to innovation development and adoption by consumers.

Being born in Brazil, she received a BA in Business Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a Research Master in Marketing from Université Pierre Mendes France.

Research themes

Dr. Boesen-Mariani research has been focusing on behaviour change and supporting individuals and populations to adopt healthier and more sustainable behaviours. During her doctoral thesis, her research focused on interventions to prevent obesity among children and adolescents, as well as the role of emotions in the decisions related to food choice and consumption.
