Willem Klijnstra has been active in the Research group Financial-Economic Advice in Innovation since 2014. He mainly focuses on providing guidance and support to bicultural entrepreneurs who participate in the Dutch Dream Foundation – one of the partners of which is HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. In this capacity, Willem also manages the process surrounding the Dutch Dream Award for Best Entrepreneur. Willem has also co-authored two booklets dealing with the issues encountered by entrepreneurs after their business’s start-up phase.
Willem previously worked in the Research group International Business and Innovation and served as the project leader of the RAAK project ‘Internationalisation of the SME segment’.
Willem Klijnstra has a business economics degree and is an alumnus of the University of Groningen and George Washington University. After graduating, he embarked on a career in international business – first as a sales/product/marketing manager; later as a general manager/director for a number of companies, including Philips, Hubbell and FCI. He lived and worked in New York and London for a decade.
He joined HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht in 2007. Among other things, he has served as the programme manager for the International Business & Management Studies programme. In addition to his roles within the Research group, Willem devotes a fair amount of attention to the execution of international business projects for the SME segment – particularly in major emerging markets like China, Turkey, Russia and India. He teaches in the fields of international business, strategy and innovation and business ethics.
