Introduction and Buddy programmes
Introduction days for new students
HU organises introduction days for new international students in September and February. The introduction programme will help you find your way around the university and make sure you are ready to start your studies.
If you are an international exchange student, the International Office of HU will organise an introduction day just before the start of your study programme in September or February. You will receive an invitation and additional information from the International Office a few weeks beforehand, so you know what to expect.
If you are an international degree student, you will participate in the introduction period of your faculty just before the start of your programme in September. The International Office will also participate in this introduction period, and inform you about all practical matters concerning your stay in the Netherlands.
Introduction to the city of Utrecht (UIT)
Every year in August, Utrecht's universities organise four days of activities for their newly enrolled students, with around 3,500 taking part every year! Check out this year's Utrecht Introduction Time (UIT) for information and registration, but keep in mind the programme is largely aimed at Dutch students and conducted in Dutch, so you might need to be a little creative!
In your first semester we can team you up with a senior student from your programme. You will meet regularly to get to know the city of Utrecht, find your way around HU, discover the best places to hang out and learn more about Dutch culture.
ESN-Utrecht and BuddyGoDutch
HU also works together with two student organisations, ESN-Utrecht and BuddyGoDutch, which organise many activities for international students. They also have a mentor/buddy programme, where international students are matched to Dutch students to get to know Dutch culture and the city in an informal and personal way.
