ProMuscle is an effective lifestyle program that contributes to the vitality of community-dwelling older people. It consists of strength training combined with a protein-enriched diet. Despite its proven effectiveness, it is not yet a standard part of care by physical therapists and dieticians.

Objective

The PUMP-fit study investigates how ProMuscle can be successfully implemented in the care of community-dwelling older people by physical therapists and dieticians in the Foodvalley region.

Results

  • Understanding which factors hinder or promote implementation of ProMuscle
  • A digital tool for physical therapists and dieticians to implement ProMuscle in practice
  • Scientific publications describing the effect and process of implementation
  •

    Duration

    01 January 2021 - 31 December 2024

    Approach

The project follows an established structure of implementation research, in which collaboration with local providers of ProMuscle is essential. Together, we will identify barriers, develop appropriate strategies, test strategies and evaluate whether and how strategies contribute to the uptake of ProMuscle in standard care.

    Impact on education

Students in the Master Physical Therapy program conduct their thesis research within the study.
