Recognition of European nurses in pharmaceutical care provision

arts zorgt voor patient in bed
Since 2022, we annually evaluate in ten European countries how nurses and non-nurses appreciate the work of nurses in pharmaceutical care, clinical reasoning, and care innovation, using the best available evidence. We examine which countries have high recognition rates and analyze the reasons behind it. These insights can help to implement measures in other countries to increase appreciation the work of nurses.

Objective

We aim to map the recognition of the work of nurses in pharmaciteucal care in the Netherlands and compare it with that of other countries, as well as to identify possible measures to increase recognition of their work.

Results

The data collected in 2022 regarding pharmaceutical care show that in all countries nurses were recognized for their friendly, warm, and empathetic attitude. But in general nurses themselves give their own work a much lower rating.  Nevertheless, Dutch nurses give themselves a slightly higher rating compared to nurses in some other countries.

Duration

01 November 2024 - 31 July 2025

Approach

Nurses and non-nurses fill out an online questionnaire each year. We question about recognition in medication care, clinical reasoning, and care innovation using the best available evidence. Each year, we select one of these components.
