Towards responsible AI in local journalism

AI applications for various activities along the news value chain offer opportunities for local media to better cope with the economic and societal challenges they face. In this project we develop and evaluate prototypes of responsible AI applications in local newsrooms and we investigate the innovation processes to analyze intra-organizational conditions that facilitate or constrain responsible AI.

Results

This project delivers AI prototypes applicable to local journalistic editorial teams and it provides insights on how to implement AI in local editorial settings.

Approach

In this project, design thinking methodologies are employed, wherein an interdisciplinary team of legal, journalistic, and AI researchers collaborates with local/regional journalists.
