Summary

A key component of the energy transition in the Netherlands is the heat transition: heating homes and buildings using sustainable energy sources. The ambition in the Dutch climate agreement (Government of the Netherlands, 2019) is to make 1.5 million homes sustainable by 2030. To achieve this goal, per year 80.000 home equivalents must be connected to district heating, from 2025 to 2030. The consortium of Future Heat Heroes aims to ensure that the heat transition can be implemented on a large scale through the use of complex heat networks and building-related installations. This will be achieved by establishing training and innovation infrastructure, developing education and training programs, and developing innovation and knowledge through learning communities and a knowledge center.
