Bas van Nierop works as a researcher at the Lectorate for Youth. Additionally, he is affiliated as a lecturer and coach within the Institute for Ecological Pedagogy. In September 2022, in collaboration with Utrecht University, he embarked on his doctoral research on gaming and adolescents, focusing on the relationship between gaming, identity development, psychosocial well-being, and the role of (professional) caregivers in this context. He is engaged in projects that prioritize the pedagogical landscape, with all its complexities, at the forefront. He firmly believes in the pivotal role students play in fostering critical thinking and shaping practice-based research endeavors.
He is particularly interested in projects that centre on the educational context in all its complexity. In addition, Bas works to strengthen the connection between different Research groups and degree programmes within HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. Bas believes students can play an important role when it comes to critical reflection on, and co-design of, practice-based research.
