Researcher

Berber Dorhout has worked as a researcher in the Research group Innovation of Movement Care since 2021. She focuses on the implementation of ProMuscle in Practice: a lifestyle intervention for older adults, in which resistance exercise and protein intake are combined.

Berber is originally trained as a nutrition scientist. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University in 2014, after which she specialized in Epidemiology and Public Health during her Master’s program. In her PhD trajectory, she studied the role of nutrition and physical activity in improving physical functioning and independence among older adults. She conducted research on ProMuscle in Practice, a lifestyle intervention for people aged 65 and older. In January 2022, she obtained her PhD on this research at Wageningen University. Between 2021 and 2023, she was trained as an implementation specialist through participation in the ZonMw Implementation Network for Sport & Physical Activity.
In her current position within the Research Group Innovation of Human Movement Care, she works on practice-oriented research related to lifestyle, behavior change, and implementation. She combines this with her role as a teacher in the minor Nutrition and Disease Prevention.
