Hugo Schalkwijk (1991) has been a researcher at the research group Proactive care for older people living at home since January 1st 2020. Schalkwijk is a public historian, specialized in nursing history. In his research, Schalkwijk sheds light on modern day issues within nursing from a historical perspective.

Within the RN2BLEND research group, Schalkwijk is researching the history of differentiated nursing practice. Using the learning history method, Schalkwijk aims to map historical development in the nursing profession. Thereby stimulating change and innovation regarding differentiated nursing practice. 

Schalkwijk combines his research with his job as curator for the online museum for the history of nursing FNI.nl and as an advisor to the Historical college FNI at V&VN. As of January 1st 2021, Schalkwijk is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School of Historical Studies.
