Young Entrepreneurship Project South Africa
During the summer of 2019, HU students from the International Business programme helped high school students in South Africa to develop business plans.
High school learners
Hosted at Stellenbosch University in Stellenbosch, South Africa, the Young Entrepreneurship Project (YEP) provided university students from Stellenbosch University and HU to collaborate in working with high school learners from the Stellenbosch region. The students were encouraged to share their different perspectives across cultures. Students were also taken to a township outside of Stellenbosch, to gain a greater understanding of the community in which high school students lived. The main object was to develop a business plan and present it to judges from community.
"I have learned about a totally different culture, a way of living and most importantly how to make business theory fun and accessible to everyone."

A great experience
Dani Ene was one of the HU students that joined the project: “The YEP project was a great opportunity to meet amazing people, share my knowledge and contribute to helping a community in need. As a business student, I have learned a lot about business strategies, teamwork and intercultural sensitivity which were vital in making this project a success. Together with Simone, my South African project partner, I have mentored a team of 9 girls from the Makupula Secondary School. It was challenging at first but the more time we spent together, the more they lowered their barriers and the closer we got. The cherry on top was their achievement of the 2nd place in the competition with their project, AMANIPHA. It really was a great experience where I have learned about a totally different culture, a way of living and most importantly how to make business theory fun and accessible to everyone.”
