BECOME focuses on the transition to a circular economy by strengthening the link between education and the labour market. Its goal is to educate students and workers (both current and future) to develop solutions and business models for this circular economy.

Objective

The BECOME (Boosting Circular Economy Expertise through Learning Communities) project aims to enhance the skills of future experts in the circular economy. To respond to the need for a transition to a circular economy, collaboration between education and the labour market must be strengthened in order to train current and future professionals who are capable of developing circular economy solutions and the associated business models.

Results

The following results are expected within this project:

  • Promoting socially responsible entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
  • Enhancing circular skills and competencies among students, educational staff, and other workers.
  • Improving the quality and relevance of developed and certified skills, with a focus on advancing the circular economy.
  • Facilitating the exchange and co-creation of knowledge between higher education institutions, vocational education and training (VET) providers, the labour market, and other stakeholders.

BECOME will achieve this by establishing strong circular economy learning communities, referred to as “Circular Hubs,” in which experts participate in training activities and share the latest knowledge and best practices to support the essential objective of educating future experts in this domain.

Approach

BECOME combines the expertise of two vocational education and training (VET) providers, four higher education institutions, and four companies from four European countries: Finland, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and Slovenia.

Education impact

The BECOME project aligns with the framework of the call and its overarching objectives by promoting new, innovative, and multidisciplinary approaches to education and learning through the joint development of teaching and training materials. It also fosters innovation in learning environments through our circular economy (CE) learning communities, all of which contribute to the development of green skills.

Collaboration with knowledge partners

Project partners include ROC Midden Nederland and Heijmans in the Utrecht region. In addition, we collaborate with Turku University of Applied Sciences, IEDC–Bled School of Management, and the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski.”
