CORNER

COllaborative Research on NEighborhood Resilience enablers
  • Project
  • January 2023 – December 2026
In the CORNER project, local residents, community organizations, the municipality and researchers work together to strengthen resilience among children in Rotterdam. We explore which places, people and activities support children in growing resilient, and how we can nurture these sources of resilience collectively.

Objective

This study explores the impact of implementing De Vreedzame Wijk in Reyeroord, Rotterdam. Together with local stakeholders, we aim to understand its broader impact, identify what already works well and is valuable, and explore future possibilities. By gathering different perspectives, we examine how the effects of De Vreedzame Wijk connect and contribute to the neighbourhood.

Results

Based on our research findings, we organize activities.

  • Children's Rights Festival: Children actively engage in learning about and participating in activities that promote their rights.
  • Climate Celebration: Children collaborate on projects that make their play and living spaces greener and more sustainable.
  • Community Initiatives: Children work together with local residents to design and carry out creative projects that enhance their neighbourhood.
  • Draw Your Neighbourhood Sessions: Children and parents share experiences and perspectives about their community, fostering engagement and local insight.
  • Child Participation Network Meeting: Researchers and professionals exchange knowledge on effectively involving children in research projects.
  • Children’s Exhibitions: Children showcase their ideas and creative projects, strengthening both their engagement and creative skills.

Duration

01 January 2023 - 31 December 2026

Approach

In this study, we use the Ripple Effects Mapping approach to explore the broader impact of programs and innovations. Like ripples in water, small actions create direct, indirect, and systemic effects, showing how activities shape individuals, groups, and the wider community over time.
