Fibre Forward, a trustworthy DPP from the source

  • Project
  • October 2025 – September 2027

The goal of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) is to make products more transparent, sustainable, and traceable throughout their entire lifecycle. But how reliable is the information in a DPP in the clothing industry? The complexity of supply chains and outdated certification systems lead to a lack of accountability and transparency.

Objective

This project addresses these issues by researching, developing, and implementing DPPs, integrated with digital trust mechanisms in the form of verifiable credentials, to create a transparent, responsible, and auditable textile supply chain.

The project follows the journey of a corporate fashion T-shirt, from cotton cultivation in India to production and distribution in the Netherlands, with full transparency and traceability. The goal is to stimulate a shift towards a circular economy by promoting responsibility and compliance with sustainability standards through the use of decentralized technologies for product verification.

Intended results

  • Involvement of Tier 3 and 4 stakeholders in a DPP.
  • A Trust module and/or mechanisms to foster trust within a supply chain.
  • Data collection and sharing with a shift from a top-down model to a more equitable and inclusive approach.

Duration

01 October 2025 - 30 September 2027
