Generalizing with AI
In this project we study the ways in which new trends in machine learning, such as transfer learning and foundation models, are being used in practice. We focus on the health, public services and media sectors.
Objective
The aim of the project is to explore issues that arise when implementing new machine learning techniques, such as transfer learning and foundation models. This exploration is carried out in collaboration with partners from health, public services and media institutions.
Results
This project aims to deliver:
- A publication describing the identified issues
- A research proposal addressing one of the identified issues
- Expertise development regarding transfer learning and foundation models
- Consortium with professional practice partners regarding new Machine Learning techniques

Approach
In focus group interviews with organisations from the sectors health, public services and media, the possibilities for using transfer learning and foundation models will be explored. The issues that arise will also be discussed, and be underpinned by literature review.
