IMPACT Immune functioning in perioperative oncology practice
Patients with cancer scheduled for major surgery can physically prepare by improving their physical activity via physical training. IMPACT (Immunity in Perioperative Practice) investigates how to assess the influence of this training on immune functioning.
Objective
The goal of this research is to identify outcome measures to assess the effects of physical training on the immune system, which are usable and relevant for oncology physiotherapists. These can eventually be used to optimize perioperative training.
Results
Approach
This research comprises several components:
- Systematic research of literature
- A cohort-study regarding kinetics of immune markers during a treatment trajectory
- Qualitative research regarding perspectives of oncology physiotherapists on the subject ‘immune functioning’
- Research regarding the construct validity and usability of a questionnaire for immune fitness
