LeesLab - education programme for linguistically diverse primary school class rooms

In the LeesLab project we develop an educational programme for linguistically diverse class rooms, together with primary schools in Rotterdam. The aim of this programme is to help all pupils become better and more motivated readers.

Aim

The question we aim to answer with this design-based research is how the educational programme, designed together with primary schools, can contribute to the reading competence, reading enjoyment and engagement of primary school pupils. In order to answer this question, we also aim to professionalize the teachers working with this programme.

Results

  • Description of the LeesLab progamme for linguistically and culturally diverse classrooms
  • Instruments for monitoring reading comprehension, reading enjoyment and engagement of pupils in linguistically diverse class rooms
  • Professional development programme for educational professionals working with LeesLab

Duration

01 January 2024 - 31 July 2025

Approach

We develop the LeesLab programme via different stages of design, enactment, evaluation and redesign. All stages take place in the context of the participating primary schools.

Cooperation

This project is carried out in cooperation with Stichting De Verre Bergen, the HU programme Education for newcomers and the HU programme PABO.
