Make-It 1.0 and 2.0: Improving the implementation of Medication Adherence interventions in Primary Care.
The Make-It consortium consists of researchers and healthcare professionals who have collaborated for many years on promoting medication adherence.

After six years (Make It 1.0: 2019 - 2025) of focusing on medication adherence, the Make-It Consortium has expanded it's scope since 2024 with Make-It 2.0. This second part of the project will continue until 2032.

Objective

After six years of focusing on medication adherence, the Make-It Consortium is expanding its scope in Make-It 2.0. In four rounds, it will support regional living labs ("proeftuinen") focused on appropriate medication use. As in the previous phase, the consortium will provide guidance, monitoring, and evaluation to support the implementation and scaling of successful and/or promising interventions.

The consortium brings together expertise in pharmacy, medicine, behavioral sciences, health services research, implementation science, communication sciences, and nursing and is supported by a patient panel and an advisory board composed of key stakeholders from clinical practice.

It aims to contribute to the necessary behavioral change among healthcare providers and to optimize the conditions for successful intervention implementation. Through this project, we strive to improve the quality of care and treatment outcomes for patients. In addition, we aim to help reduce healthcare costs by minimizing medication waste and optimizing prescribing and dispensing processes.

Duration

01 January 2019 - 31 December 2032

Approach & results

The Make-It Consortium will support the living labs and offer them a broad range of activities and tools, forming an infrastructure that is unique in the field of appropriate medication use in primary care. This infrastructure includes:

  • Tailored workshops for the living labs, for example on outcome measurement, project management, implementation strategies, stakeholder analysis, and storytelling
  • Peer-to-peer learning and reflection sessions
  • Individual coaching and customized training support
  • Research support for project champions
  • A practical implementation guide

Make-It is also developing assessment criteria to evaluate project proposals. We explore the context of all living lab sites through interviews and surveys, and we evaluate their implementation outcomes. Finally, the project and its results will be presented on a broad scale, both nationally and internationally.
