Obesity rates are increasing rapidly in the Netherlands and are impacting individuals and society alike. There is a need for a better understanding of the role played by biological factors in the occurrence of obesity. The alpha-amylase enzyme in saliva could be one of these factors.

Objective

We want to use our research to gain an insight into the connection between body composition and the activity of the alpha-amylase enzyme in the saliva of healthy people and people with obesity.

Results

This research is ongoing. Once completed, the research results will be published here.

Duration

01 June 2019 - 01 June 2021

Approach

We will conduct a pilot study on 50 healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 30. We will then carry out measurements on a group of people with obesity at one of the participating dietician practices.
