Alex KleinJan, PhD, is a senior researcher at the Innovative Testing Department in Life Sciences & Chemistry at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. Within this department, research focuses on the applicability of in vitro models for stem cell-based intestinal organoids. These models are used to investigate the suitability of food products that promote intestinal health in various livestock animals such as cows, pigs, and chickens. Additionally, research is conducted on human toxicological cell models as alternatives to animal experimentation, utilizing intestinal organoids based on stem cells.
The research is carried out in collaboration with food and pharmaceutical companies and research institutions. Alex KleinJan has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of allergology and immunology, particularly focusing on respiratory mucosa. He has extensive experience in both in vitro and in vivo work, as well as histological and immunological techniques related to intestinal and respiratory mucosa in both humans and animals.
