Annemarie van Geel

Lecturer-researcher
Annemarie van Geel is a senior researcher in the Decent Work research group. Her main interest lies in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion. Her research focuses on trajectories towards education and paid work for newcomers to the Netherlands. Annemarie’s mission is to contribute to a healthier, more inclusive and compassionate world. As an anthropologist, the human perspective is always her starting point.

Annemarie is an Arabist and anthropologist and completed her PhD on the position of women in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. In addition to her research tasks, she teaches Diversity & Inclusion in the BA Social Work and mentors groups of students. Alongside her work at the HU, Annemarie has her own business, Faraasha Middle East Training & Advisory, where she works as a trainer and strategic advisory at the intersection of Middle East affairs, women in leadership, and women’s rights.
