Martijn has been working as a PhD candidate within the Research Group of Vocational Education and Driving Educational Change since September 2024. Thanks to a NWO Teacher Grant, he works on his PhD research two days a week.

Martijns focus in his PhD research is on the beliefs and practices of lecturers in higher education who are in a transforming assessment culture. With specific interest in which factors promote or hinder a change in those beliefs and practices. Due to the combination of assessment and change issues, his research bridges research group Vocational Education and research group Driving Educational Change.
Martijn has a combined experience of over 15 years in teaching and assessment, as well as development of education, at the University of Amsterdam (Communication Science, until September 2016) and the University of Applied Science Utrecht (Communication, from February 2016). He is co-author of three published peer-reviewed empirical articles about communication.
