Vuslat Şeker

Researcher

Vuslat Şeker has been working as a postdoctoral researcher within the Research Group Mathematical and Analytical Competence of Professionals since November 2023. She investigates the teaching and learning of mathematics and statistics, aiming to improve mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills across different educational contexts.

Vuslat completed her Ph.D. in Mathematics Education with a specialization in Statistics Education at Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkiye) in July 2023. Her dissertation focused on the statistical teaching practices of middle school mathematics teachers to identify both strengths and areas for improvement in current teaching practices, ultimately contributing to statistics education for students to become statistically literate citizens.

Expertise

  • Mathematics and Statistics Education
  • Teacher Education
  • Educational Research (including design research)

She completed her undergraduate studies in Mathematics Education at Boğaziçi University (Istanbul, Turkey) in 2012. For the past ten years, she has been teaching mathematics in addition to conducting research. She has also taught pre-service teachers and provided in-service training on teaching mathematics.

Vuslat is currently working on the Erasmus+ project "Eye-Teach-Stats", which is dedicated to developing the statistical pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and content knowledge (CK) of mathematics teachers. She is also the Link Convenor of Network 24 - Mathematics Education Research at the European Conference on Educational Research (ECER).
