CirCola Circular Collaboration Laminate Bags

Working together on circular care: efficient use and upgrading of laminate bags in oral care
  • Project
  • June 2026 – May 2028
The CirCoLa project focuses on reducing unnecessary use of sterilization packaging and developing a technically feasible upcycling process for this kind off packaging.

Objective

This project reduces healthcare waste in oral care by upcycling sterilization bags, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions and raw material use.

Results

The project offers a practical step-by-step plan for sustainable implementation in practice and makes a concrete contribution to the transition to circular (oral) healthcare.

Duration

01 June 2026 - 31 May 2028

Approach

The project consists of three parts: (1) the technical development of a processing method for sterilization bags, (2) research in dental practices into how sterilization bags are used and collected, and (3) working with healthcare providers to investigate practical solutions to prevent waste and enable reuse.

Impact on education

Utrecht University of Applied Sciences integrates the project results into research, teaching modules and continuing professional development.
