Financing choices for popular music artists

Musicians

Small businesses in the popular music industry often lack a full picture of the different type of finance available to them. How do music artists and their managers make financial decisions and which options do they have?

Objective

This research shows how small businesses in the popular music industry (artists and managers, for example) make financial decisions.

Many new forms of financing have become available to SMEs in recent years. Music entrepreneurs are often unaware of these new options.

Duration

01 January 2019 - 31 December 2022

Approach

The research project starts with an explorative qualitative phase, in which we interview Dutch, Belgian and Norwegian artists and managers. In the second, quantitative phase, we test the ideas and patterns that emerge from these interviews on a bigger group of music entrepreneurs.
