PREFERENCE: personalized care after cancer surgery

Patients with cancer in the digestive organs are returning home more and more quickly after an invasive medical trajectory. However, patients also need care after hospital admission. For this growing and frail patient group, it is important to develop appropriate recovery care, that meets the needs of the patient.

Objective

In the PREFERENCE project, we investigate how patients with cancer in the digestive organs can be optimally supported after surgery, to promote their physical recovery, quality of life and participation, and how to personalize this care.

Results

We hope to obtain the following results:

  • Knowledge about the needs of patients, informal caregivers and healthcare providers on paramedical care after surgery for cancer in the digestive organs
  • Identifying existing solutions that meet these needs
  • Developing and evaluating new solutions for patients, informal caregivers and healthcare providers, in order to provide appropriate care
  •

Duration

01 September 2023 - 01 September 2026

Approach

We will start with a literature search and conduct interviews with patients, informal caregivers and healthcare providers to identify the needs. Thereafter, we will identify, in co-creation, which existing advices and tools meet these needs and will develop and evaluate new solutions.
