Playing sports is wonderful and has all kinds of physical, social and psychological benefits for children. Unfortunately, sports for children with a chronic condition or disability are not self-evident. There are all kinds of reasons for this. In this research, we try to map these barriers and develop sustainable solutions for them.

Sportdeelname bij kinderen met een chronische aandoening of beperking

Objective

The aim of this project is to improve the sports participation of children with chronic conditions and disabilities. We want to achieve this by setting up a sustainable network of stakeholders, determine barriers and facilitators and designing personalized programs for these children based on this.

Results

We hope we can improve sports participation for children with a chronic condition or disability by developing sustainable, personal solutions together with children, parents, healthcare and sports professionals.

Approach

We want to identify barriers and facilitators to sports participation with those directly involved and from there set up a sustainable network with which we want to develop targeted, personalized interventions to improve sports participation.

Education impact

This research was initiated from the daily practice of children, parents and professionals who encounter barriers for sports participation. We hope our results can therefore be directly applied in daily practice to directly support these stakeholders in sports. In addition, the results of this study will be reflected in the bachelor's and master's education of the institute for movement studies of the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.
