Until 2016, he worked as a sports physiotherapist and exercise physiologist in professional (youth) football in the Netherlands, Qatar and China. In 2023, he obtained his PhD in Utrecht for research into sports participation, sports injuries and sports related bleeds in people with haemophilia.
