This project focuses on improving the labor market position of temporary agency workers by fostering knowledge sharing among stakeholders regarding sustainable careers and employability in temporary employment work. The aim is to facilitate positive development and to better embed best practices into existing policies.

The involved parties — including ABU, NBBU, and DOORZAAM — aim to effectively implement and institutionalize interventions for sustainable employability and lifelong learning within the sector. This is being explored through six regional experiments conducted annually within field labs, and through the establishment of and action-based learning within a national Community of Practice (CoP).

Objective

The aim is to make a substantial contribution to the application of scientific knowledge on the implementation of sustainable employability, lifelong learning, and sustainable careers for temporary agency workers. This knowledge can help contribute to decent work for agency workers, as well as to the flexibility and resilience of the Dutch labor market and broader societal well-being by 2040.

Duration

01 November 2024 - 31 October 2028

Approach

In line with the central research question (How can we create sustainable careers for temporary agency workers?) this project is comprised of three work packages:

  • Desk research and focusgroup sessions to bundle knowledge on sustainable careers in temporary agency work
  • Implementing and monitoring interventions targeted at (improving) sustainable careers (i.e., action research)
  • Setting up a Community of Practice

Impact on education

This project is carried out in close collaboration with the Institute for People & Business; among others, thesis students of the Human Resource Management bachelor program are paired to the project's sub studies. In addition, the project’s findings are shared with the educational programs of this institute and with professionals; this dissemination will take place in strong alliance with our consortium partners ABU, NBBU and Doorzaam.
