Gerda Bruinsma MSc (1965) is a speech therapist, a lecturer for the Speech Therapy degree programme, and since 1 September 2011 a researcher at the Research group Speech and Language Therapy: Participation through communication. She is conducting her doctoral research into the effectiveness of speech therapy in children with language development disorders.

In her work as a speech therapist, she often had questions about the effect or impact of treatment. This gave rise to a desire to delve into scientific research. Upon completing a master's in Speech Therapy Science, she noticed that few impact studies had been done with regard to speech therapy treatments for language development disorders.

She started her doctoral research  in 2014 , with which she hopes to contribute to the further improvement of speech therapy, so that children with language development disorders may be able to fully participate in our society.
Gerda Bruinsma is also a lecturer for the Speech Therapy degree programme, the pre-master’s programme in Speech Therapy Science and post-HPE courses for speech therapists.
