Hillie de Rooij studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and earned a Master’s degree in documentary photography at St. Joost in Breda. Her work revolves around the question of how photography influences our perception of the world and gives it meaning.

Since 2020, she has been working as a lecturer at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences within the Social Work program, with a focus on the creative-cultural specialization. In her teaching, she facilitates the development of students’ creative capacity and encourages the use of visual language and storytelling as tools within their professional field.
In addition, she works as a researcher at the Sustainable Communities research group, where she conducts research within the lines of Sustainable Communities and Art & Culture.
