Prof. Jean Pierre Wilken has been a professor at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht since 2002. He studied social sciences and psychology and obtained his doctorate at the University of Tilburg with a thesis entitled ‘Recovering Care: A contribution to a theory and practice of good care’.
He manages the Research group Participation, Care and Support, of the Research Centre for Social Innovation at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Tallinn, Estonia since 2012, and at the University of Milan since 2019. He is also programme coordinator of the knowledge platform Utrecht Sociaal - a collaborative venture of municipalities, care and welfare organisations, citizens' initiatives, and educational and research institutions.
Jean Pierre Wilken previously worked at the Regional Institute for Sheltered Living in Utrecht, the University of Utrecht, the National Hospital Institute of the Netherlands, and Storm Rehabilitation. From 1996-2007, he was Director of Research and Development at Storm Rehabilitation, and from 2008-2009 he was Head of Knowledge Development and Quality Policy at the Rino Group / Training Centre for Long-term & Complex Care.
