Marjolein Wildwater

Researcher

Marjolein Wildwater is a senior project manager at the Research group Innovative Testing in Life Sciences & Chemistry (ITLC) at the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. She is responsible for the project 3R-TOXFLOW: reducing animal testing through the use of smart animal-free methods.

Marjolein studied Biology in Amsterdam. Her scientific work during and after her doctoral research was focused on developmental biology. Since 2010, Marjolein has been actively committed to translating this knowledge to the market, for example by assessing whether (new) substances or products might be harmful to human health.

The 3R-TOX-FLOW project offers a solution for determining possible harmful effects of substances with regard to reproduction and (child) development, without the use of laboratory animals. The project is sponsored by the European Union and makes use existing testing methods that have been standardised and combined into a market-oriented test battery.
