In this project we aim to develop a symptom app that helps children with (advanced) cancer and their families recognize and manage symptoms. At home, reliable information is often harder to find, and parents may experience barriers to contact healthcare professionals. The app is intended to provide support at the moments when it is needed most.

Objective

This project aims to improve the comfort and quality of life of children with (advanced) cancer and their families. By enabling structured symptom tracking at home, the app provides insight into what children are experiencing and reduces the distance to healthcare professionals, supporting more targeted and responsive symptom management.

Results

The app aims to:

  • Support timely identification of symptoms relevant to the patient
  • Facilitate patient‑ and family centered care based on evidence-based guidelines
  • Enable symptom registration for children with (advanced) cancer

Approach

In this project, we use a co‑design approach. We involve children, parents, and healthcare professionals to understand their needs and wishes at different moments in the process. This way, future users can share their ideas and help shape decisions about the final product.

Education impact

We involve students from different programmes to help explore possible solutions and to give them hands‑on experience with a real‑world case.
