Nico de Vos is the Director of the Research Centre for Social Innovation, Professor of Sustainable Communities, and lecturer in the Master’s programme Community Development. He has an academic background in Physical Education and Human Movement Sciences (Bachelor’s, Master’s degree), as well as in Philosophy (Bachelor’s, Research Master’s, PhD). He graduated with honours (cum laude) in all his university programmes. His PhD focused on the philosophy of bodily connectedness, in the context of dance art.
Before joining HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, De Vos held various management and executive positions in both profit and non-profit sectors, primarily in the field of HR. In addition, he worked for several years in different roles at ArtEZ University of the Arts (Master’s in Choreography, Master’s in Arts Education). Since 2005, he has been employed at HU, initially as a lecturer and coordinator in the Master’s programme at the Institute for Ecological Pedagogy, later as an educational innovator at the Institute for Social Work, and subsequently as a lecturer in the Master’s programme in Community Development within that institute. Since mid-2016, he has been working as a professor, and since 2020 also as a director.
