In my first year I started an internship as part of my programme. Once a week I taught at secondary schools. If you love education and children, teaching is a wonderful thing to do. Sometimes it can be difficult to get the attention of all of the pupils, but by practicing your skills as a lecturer will get better. I really enjoyed this experience because I could start practicing my future profession from the beginning of my studies!

Besides the four main skills required in any language (Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading), I learnt new organisational skills, how to be a team player, and research skills. The main aim of the course is the role of a teacher and the background of the English language. The work placement we are required to follow from the first year on provides me with the experience of working within the Dutch educational system.

My first year studying Teacher Education at the HU has been an amazing experience. The content, lectures and support I have received from mentors has been invaluable and the programme thoroughly prepares you for a career in the Dutch education system. There has been opportunities to work on individual assignments as well as group assignments; getting the most from your learning experience and the HUbl course site is a fantastic learning tool supplying all the materials, exercises and course information you need. I've made some amazing friends too!
