Summary

Society is undergoing profound transitions in sustainability, digitalization, labor market, and social inclusion. These developments reshape professional roles and require new approaches to education and training across stages of education, career and lifelong learning. Universities of applied sciences play a pivotal role by integrating education, practice-oriented research, and collaboration with the professional field. This model keeps learning closely connected to evolving societal and industry needs and enables learners to contribute to transitions in existing and emerging domains. HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht has made this integration a cornerstone of its institutional strategy. Its mission emphasizes high‑quality education and practice‑based research that innovates professional practice and fosters talent development. The institutional vision, Together for the Future, asserts that stronger cooperation between education, research and the professional field enhances capacities to address contemporary challenges. This vision is expressed through three core values: future‑oriented, collaborative, and inclusive; and through priority domains such as digital transformation, sustainable development and educational innovation.  This vision aligns with Erasmus+ cooperation partnerships priority domains in education, such as digital transformation, inclusion and diversity, and environmental issues. The program provides strategic support and resources that enable organizations to strengthen their capacities, enhance experience in international cooperation, and produce high-quality innovative results.  This symposium explores how European partnerships contribute to educational innovation and institutional development. Drawing on three on-going large-scale projects, each at a different stage (conclusion, intermediate and early), the authors provide a critical analysis of the processes to co-create, pilot, and embed new educational practices. They highlight contributions to priority domains through curriculum innovation, digital transformation in forward-looking fields, international competence development, and professional partnerships. Together, the contributions illustrate how European partnerships can accelerate transitions and strengthen the capacity of universities of applied sciences. They also address challenges and adaptive mitigation strategies for long-term impact.
