Since 2023, Joost has been conducting the BENE-FIT PhD research study in collaboration with the Research Groups Innovation in Movement Care and Financial Economic Innovation. This study investigates how primary care physiotherapy practices can improve their performance – both quality and finances – using Dynamic Capabilities theory, a business theory on how companies deal with challenges and opportunities.

As a lecturer-researcher, Joost aims to help improve the profession of physiotherapy, particularly the business of primary care physiotherapy practices. he hopes his research can contribute to strengthening the position of primary care physiotherapy practices, so therapists can focus on what they do best: helping people. Additionally, he hopes to bridge the gap between research and education as a lecturer, to better prepare the new generation of physiotherapists for their role in the larger healthcare system.
