DLO Inclusive Education

  • Project
  • January 2025 – December 2025

Over the past two years, HU teams have explored how to make HU-education more inclusive—socially and practically. Now, we’re joining forces with stakeholders to turn insights into action by co-designing an e-learning tool focused on inclusion in education. It’s time to build together, for everyone.

Objective

1.Collaborating within HU to promote more inclusive higher education.

2.Developing guidelines and an e-learning tool for staff.

3.Building a learning community focused on inclusion.

4.Creating a joint research agenda with external partners.

5.Raising awareness around neurodiversity and support needs in education and the workplace.

6.Long-term goal: Realizing an inclusive hybrid learning environment.

This project has three phases: analyzing current practices and policies, building a learning community around inclusion, and developing an e-learning tool with both online and face-to-face exercises to support lecturers in creating more inclusive higher education.

Results

  • Mapping of current HU project on the topic of inclusion (internal document)
  • Research rapport (publication in December)
  • Prototype E-learning tool (tbc)

Duration

06 January 2025 - 31 December 2025

Approach

Building on previous HU research (such as DLO Digital Inclusion), expert interviews, and co-design sessions with students and lecturers, we explore new questions around inclusive education. This forms the foundation for an e-learning tool that provides lecturers with practical guidance to make the hybrid learning environment more inclusive, enabling students to fully participate and educational staff to work effectively within it.

Impact for education

This project aims to make HU’s hybrid learning environment more inclusive by addressing needs that are often overlooked—such as those of neurodivergent students and users with visual, auditory, or motor impairments. By focusing on accessibility through inclusive applications and software, we strive to create a learning space that supports all students. The overarching goal is to ensure that diverse needs are considered from the start, making hybrid education more equitable and supportive for everyone.
